This quilt is special among my quilts. The background marbled cotton with an unusual color pallet, is a one of a kind piece onto which I appliquéd marbled hearts. The free flowing design demonstrates the marbling process is truly a unique art form. I kept the fabric for many years trying to decide how to use it in a quilt. Finally last week I pulled it out of the fabric closet and immediately saw the quilt I wanted to create.
I completely enjoyed the process from start to finish and found it a liberating and inspirational piece to sew. I tried to further encourage the movement of this piece with my quilting. I used gold metallic thread for some of the quilting especially in the border hearts and accenting areas throughout the quilt.
While I was laying out the hearts before appliquéing them down, I left the room briefly. Upon returning I discovered one of my felines (Konya) sitting on top of the fabric and moving one of the hearts with her paw. Seeing me, she immediately jumped off the table knowing she had transgressed the guidelines of decorum in the studio. I actually liked the new place the small purple heart ended up and left it there. Sometimes rules need adjusting.
