Angel with Sunflowers
angel with sunflowers quilt

42 inches x 50 inches
Hand marble cottons, David's clothes
Machine pieced, machine and hand applique, machine quilted.

This is the third quilt I made for my soul sister and the one intended for her. The quilt has David's shirt fabrics and my hand marbled cottons. I incorporated yellow because David liked this color and sunflowers were one of his favorite flowers. The white fabric on the angel came from a white oxford cloth shirt. Many fabrics were added to this quilt not used in the other two pieces. The skirt front was sewn from the fabrics left over from the Square in Square quilt. There are no cotton knit fabrics used in the T Shirt quilt because I didn't have any left suitable for this piece. I used some buttons from one shirt going down the bodice of the angel. And at long last I found a home for one of my favorite marble fabrics using it for the angel wings.

On a technical level this was the hardest of the three quilts to execute but also the easiest because the design came to me in a dream. Though the other two quilts are much simpler in design they were much more difficult to develop. I had also become much more comfortable with the process by this time. Healing grief is not easy but once you can step away from your story, accept the energy given to help you along your soul development, you can turn your energy outward and give a helping hand to others in their time of need.

To see the other two quilts I made go to my essay Healing Grief.
